I don’t really see the importance of printing books on
paper. I think that the knowledge inside of the book is more important than
what it’s printed on. For example if a book has a really cover and printed on
nice paper this has nothing to do with the fact of weather what is contained
inside is high quality information. With ebooks you don’t really get the feel
and look of a real book but I feel that the content is a lot more important
than the book its self. Also I don’t think that a lot of people buy books
anymore anyway so to me it would make more sense if instead of wasting a lot of
paper, and money in order to print books out. The publishing companies could
just invest in ebooks which people buy these days and they could save money
from all the books that don’t get bought. A time in which I would recommend buying
a book is if there a book you want to read very much and there is no ebook for
it. Instead of just wating for the ebook to come out you should just go out and
buy it and when the ebook comes out you can also get it digitally also.

Weekly Review #1
Chapter 1-5
Why does the book fight club start out so erratic, why does
it rotate from many different places and introduces many characters very
quickly in the first 5 chapters. The narrator didn’t stick to one story he bombarded
you with a ton of information and does go in much detail. The reason I think
the author does this is to show the fact the narrator in confused and has an
erratic personality. The author is trying to show how fast paced and how
unconnected the narrators thoughts are. This random way the first few chapters
was written is a way to show that the narrator is a bit mentally unstable. The
book starts out with Tyler having a gun to the narrators head, and then quickly
jumps to the description of the support groups this shows that the narrator has
a wondering mind. He talks about how he can only sleep when he cries this can
show he can become dependent on certain things. It seems to start out this way
to add some context to what’s going it just runs through the events very
quickly. If you know the story of fight club you can come to the conclusion
that I did which is that the narrator has a mental illness and a way the author
was trying to show this through rapid and random thought process. The narrator
uses a lot and asks for more sleeping pills, is addicted to going to support
group meetings, saying he want the plane hes flying in to crash, these are all references
to his mental instability.
Reflection #2
I do believe that reading books in school something makes
you hate reading, and makes you not want to read outside of school. I feel the
reason is that all the work and questions that goes along with the reading I feel
that instead of reading to get inspired, learn about a different perspective
and just enjoying an entertaining story we end up looking for answers to
questions. I think our reading too focused on finding quotes and writing
essays. Also the fact that we don’t get to interpret things the way we want to,
it seems sometimes we can interpret the book as long as it’s the interpretation
the textbooks or curriculum. I feel there should be more freedom to interpret
as long as we can back it up with details from the reading. Another reason that
I feel reading in school makes us dislike reading it because we don’t really
get to choose what we want to read, im fine with reading the classics but I think
we should get to choose a few books we want to read. When you choose the books
you read you should enjoy it more because you pick a book about a subject you like.
I feel ways we can improve reading in school is have a chance to interpret for yourself,
let students choose books, and less questions more focus one the story and try to learn something from the text.

Reflection #1
I personally feel that all best seller lists means is a lot of people have bought and like the book. I don't feel that just because something is a best seller it's a great book, popularity doesn't have to mean it a high quality book. On the other hard I don't think a book I automatically great just because its won a lot of awards. I think it's a matter of just simply what you like to read you like fast paced action then read best sellers but if you like deeper meaning then read the litarery books. I think people should try to read both best sellers and the classics this way you can examine both sides and then decide what you want to read. Also I don't think you should ever read a book just because its won awards or on a best seller list you should read because its a subject you want to read about. Sometimes I feel that books on best seller list force you to read them because they are so talked about and publicized so you fell like you have to read them but if the book isn't something you are interested in then you shouldn't read it. My view is if you like a genre, an author, a spific subject matter, then read the book it shouldn't matter weather it's been awarded or an a best seller list.
