FInal Project

Creative Piece

Jill:

I didn’t want to be a part of this, I was forced into it. They came into my house and stole from me they didn’t steal tvs, or money or any material items. No they came in and stole my baby; they stole my three year old right out from under my nose. I was out raged at this. This was one of my main guiding factors in pursuing this whole alien thing. They stole my baby from me, and then they started to mess with my head they went and put in all these images of the mountain. I kept seeing this mountain over and over again, this was around time they stole my child from me. I became obsessed with this, I needed to know who took my boy and why. I met another person who felt just like me they also shared a bit of an obsession with finding out the truth of what is really going on here. This is when I found Roy someone with the same obsession and has gone through the same experiences as me.

Roy:

I was just an electrical lineman, form Indiana.  For a couple of days there have been power surges and outages all around the city it was my job to find out what this was happening, I was also tasked with fixing it. On this is where my story gets unbelievable so I’m about to get to work on the electric issues and right over my truck I see something its big and bright. I looked like no plane I have ever seen in my life it made me a little scared, I was so close I could feel the heat from it, I could feel the warmth on my face. After it flew over, and disappeared into the night sky I was left standing there truly shocked, my mind couldn’t process what had just happened. I was left standing there with so many question running through my mind “what was that, how did it get here, was it a human piloted or something else, is me and my family and friends going to be safe from not on? This was really a life changing experience for me. I did get some negative things from this experience, I just like Jill became obsessed with finding out what really is occurring here. I just like Jill started to receive the same messages, and images of mountains and different tones in my head. There was a point when I was even building models of the mountain that I kept seeing in my vision. This obsession put a lot of strain on me and my wife’s marriage, which for the most part was really great I was under the impression that we really loved each other. My wife for understandable reasons found my new found obsession very odd and in some ways really scared her. I seemed whenever I would bring up my experiences she didn’t want to hear it, she ended up becoming sick of my “nonsense”.  I will keep on pursuing the truth to find out what is happening.

Aliens:

I have the freedom to do as we please, the humans can’t control us. The only thing they can do is what we allow them. We are in control, if there leaders follow our instructions then all will be well, if not you shall pay. We will abduct you citizens for your experiments and there is almost nothing and of these humans can do. Just like we did to Jill’s little boy we will take you family members but looking on the good side we will return them within a few months, to tell you the truth like the men on flight 19 it may be a few decades in some cases. As long as you follow what we say and obey us we will do minimal damage to you planet but the very moment we are disobeyed you all will face the wrath.

Reflection #10

Villains
The reason I believe the "bad" character is so interesting is because he/she come from a different perspective, the other side of the coin. It seems to me that most of the people on earth view themselves as the good guys, the heroes and then the Villain is the opposite of the way we tend to view ourselves. If everything around you is colored blue you would be really interested in the thing that's colored yellow, some of the interest comes from the fact the the villains are so diffident that what we are used to. Also it seem villains add a conflict and plot to the story line if the story was just a bunch of heroes running around nothing would happen with would  make for a very uninteresting story. Villains can make text alot more exiting because this leads to conflict which leads to more excitement. The villain characters sets a goal for the hero to overcome. Another reason i fell the villain character is important and needed is because the bad guy seems to add a bit of realism to the text meaning now there can be a way to see not every person is good and lets you see there are some in the world that wish to cause you harm.

Reflection #9

The First great moment was when Roy was investigating the power outages that have been going on, he then sees a UFO which flies over his head and slightly burns his face. This UFO is followed by some police cars and this adds interest to the event. This is important because this is what gets Roy very interested in these phenomena. Roy starts after this event to become obsessed with a subliminal message that he  seems to keep receiving in his mind about a mountain. This first encounter leads to the climax of the story which occurs on the mountain.

Another great, important moment is when Jillian’s son is abducted by aliens and taken away. During this time she is also receiving the same mountain images as Roy. The kidnapping of her son is one of the reasons she and Roy end up going on the journey to the mountain. This event leads to the curiosity of the characters to find out what happened to Barry this lead them to follow all the clues to try to understand what is happening. This was also an important emotional aspect to this event that made it great you could truly understand the characters will to find the truth.

The last great moment is the return Barry and other abductees, and the taken in of Roy towards the end of the book on the mountain. This was a great moment because it brought closure to Julian because she found her son back which was one of the main reasons she went on this journey. This was also closure to the other families because they have after decades for some people got their families back. Also this moment allowed Roy to get an answer for his curiosity because he was chosen to go on the mothership.

Reflection 3

I believe that a book is a tool for a person to express there ideas. Weather you are telling a story from you imagination or a true story that you have experienced in your life. It's a way of letting others know you perspective and views on issues and life. I think that the point of a book is to entertain or inform. Books can come in all forms weather it's an ebook, or a real paper book what's important is the ideas being expressed and the people reading it. A book is a place where you as let people see inside you deepest thoughts, it's a was to get others to understand your perspective I think anyone and everyone can write a book as long as you have ideas you can write a book. A book is also a great tool to use to get inspired such as people reading book and getting inspired to make movies. Books can also help you change you life if you read a self help/inspirational book it may help you learn things about your self and help change your life for the better. In my view a book is a needed tool to get your ideas around and this is a way to teach others from your perspective. A book to me is like giving a speech, or resiteing a poem, just written down and the reader will have move room to imagine events for them selves.

Reflection #7

When I comes to people lying about events in non- fiction books I am fine with it but don't call the work a true story memoir. If you claim it's factual and it's not that is dishonest to the reader. When you pick up a book in the non-fiction section you are expecting a real story of someone's expirences. If the info is made up then it seems pointless to even read so called true story's if they really aren't true. If you are reading a book to learn about someone's real expirences and its not factual information they your are just reading a fiction not a true event story. On the other hand I'm fine with small exaggerations in certain places in the story, such as conversations, and when and where events took place. This may make a lot more interesting story but my problem is when you claim a true story but you have made up whole events and characters. If you as an author are going to lie about your story then I think you should just make your story fiction this way your readers wouldn't be lied to. Also if you know there are flat out lies in your book you can put a small warning such as "some events aren't true" this would help readers understand not to take you story as complete fact.

Top 5 Books

Fight Club

This book is about a man struggling with everyday life, stuggling about what to do with himself and how to live. To get him through this he invents a split personatily that is more bold and can do all the things he can. This leads to forming together a group of men who have anti-societial views and spend time causing havoc in he city such as destroying art and blowing up bulidings. The narrator really doesnt want to be apart of these activites and has conflict with his other side. I liked this book becasue it was fast-paced and had a very exiting story. I like how it made you think about how some stressed out and confused people and get in life. I love how you were getting two main characters perspectives from one book alone.

Of Mice and Men

This book is about two men trying to fulfill there dreams of one day owning there own farm. The two characters are Lenny and George, Lenny is large man but he has a mental disabilty. Lenny is very kind and caring but the has a tendency to squeze things the likes too hard and harm them. George one the other hand is pretty intelengent and is always the one controling the actions Lenny. The reason I like this book so much is because it is very simple but has many deeper meanings such a friendship, and understanding. I love how they contrasted the characters one is large and less smart, the other is small but has the intelengence. The books ending was very sad but I felt that the way it ended made you gain a deeper connection with the charceters by feeling sad for them, also this helps you understand how much Geroge cares for Lenny.

The Catcher and the Rye

This book is about a very stubbon, and some what of a rebel going through life at school and after he leaves school. The reason i like this book was at times Holden seemed relatiable because sometimes I go through stress because of school or life. Also the feeling of giving up and doing what ever you want in times of trouble sometimes I feel that everyone at times go through these times of fustration with life. This book seemed to show the changes people go through as a teen you start off one way and for certin diffrent reason you may endup changing in some ways.

Harry Potter

This is a book about a young wizard whos parents got killed when he was young, this is the first book in the series it goes through this first year of wizard school and all the adventures, and new expirences harry and his friends go through. This book has a speical place in my memory becusae it was the first long novel that I have ever read and I loved it. Im not really a big Harry Potter fan but I love this book because it show magical powers which is always intresting. These kids also learned alot about good over evil, friendship, and how to protect others this book helped me in some ways by teaching me moral lessons. The best thing about the book though is the story it was an amazing adventure to read it went through a whole year of adventures and action.

Proj 2

This book storyline revloved around a mental institue; the actions, antics, and conversations. The characters are patients at the institue they all have diffrent personalities and ideas one life. The books main characters are The Chief(the narrator) and McMurphy. McMurphy becomes the leader of there group because the is the boldest and braves one in the mental hospital. Mcmurphy is the newest patient in the mental instation and he is there for statutory rape. He has pretended to be insane in order to get out of prison time. So Murphy isn't really insane he is just pretending because he doesn't want to do jail time. The narrator chief is 6 feet 7 seven inches tall he seems to pretend to be deaf and incapable of speech, he looks to be doing this because he wants to be left alone and tries to go unnoticed. Due to his shyness he his at times taken advantage of by the orderlies and nurses, they at times make fun of him, boss him around, and at times force him to clean the area.

The plot of the book mostly revolves around the characters rebelling and standing up to the main villain of the nurse. Early McMurphy organized a form of protest instead of doing work and cleaning the men following Murphys lead all decided to group together in order to watch the blank tv screen. I feel that this was just a way for the men to show they aren't afraid to disobey authority, and choose to live there life the way they choose. There is a section in book where Mcmurphy looses his courage when he realizes that the nurse is the one that controls when he Is allowed to leave, also the nurse has the ability to make him go to electroshock therapy. Murphy gains back his courage after he starts to understand he is looked up to and view as a leader by the other men. Soon after Mcmurphy then organizes a fishing trip with the other men in order to relieve the stress of the life in the ward. This seems to help him regain his confidence and calm down from the stress he was under the nurse.

After this McMurphy starts to cause a string of trouble by getting into fights  with the workers, he brings weed and alcohol into the ward, he also fights with nurse Ratched, and he also let a prostitue because of all theses issues McMurphy had to deal with penalties. The penalty he faces is he is to be lombotized after the event he becomes a vegetable and the Bromden ends up killing him to remove his pain, before breaking out himself. In the end it seems as thought that Nurse Ratched has lost all of her power and the men look to be free, many of them end up leaving.

I recomend this book to people that like unique story's with unique characters and settings. This book had everything I would ever want in a book it had some humor, and moments of intese drama and action. The characters are well portrayed and depicted. I like the fact that the book didn't have a ton on unessary discriptions of characters and places. The book made you think what it's like to be mentally ill and how the strict, difficult the life's of these people can be. This book had a underlying message of living your life the way out want to, and standing up to those above you if they are wrong. Overall I think this was a very well written and this book also had a very good story line that felt very real to me.

Book Cover

The book cover was well done I like it because it is very simple and straight to the point. I like it because it just tells you the name, and who wrote it. I am of the opinion that the book cover is unimportant; sure it’s good if it looks nice but what really matters is what is written inside. I believe book covers in general shouldn’t he emphasized because even if a certain book has an amazing well designed cover that has no bearing on whether or not the book is good. Books covers are very much a marketing tool if the cover is nice then more people are likely to buy it. Also if the cover is bland and boring even in a good book it may turn some people off from the book. It is all about the content of the book; you don’t open a Kit Kat because it cover is pretty you open it because you want what’s inside. I do thing my book cover is well done because it is kept simple this way you main focus can be reading, and understanding the text and what message the author is trying to get across.

Book 2, Review 3

My book One Flew over a Cuckoo’s nest would best be classified as Historical-Realistic-Drama Fiction. I choose this genre classification because it takes place not in modern times but in the late 1950s. The author kept the story historically accurate in the way the people were treated in the mental intuition. I thought the most accurate description would be realistic fiction because nothing happened that involved and superpowers or magic. In this story every event that took place could have happened, every character seemed like they could have existed at one point. All the patients and all the nurses could exist in reality. None of the events were so amazing, extreme that they couldn’t occur in reality. The main events in this book are introduction of McMurphy, the chief reveling to McMurphy he can speak, breaking into the pharmacy to smuggle two bottles of liquor, Billy killing himself all these events have a possibility of occurring in real life. I can’t really see a way this book doesn’t fit the realistic fiction genre because the characters don’t have any magic skills, and all the technology included in the book has already been invented there is nothing to stretch the imagination beyond reality.

Reflection #6

The Genres of book that are my favorite to read are thrillers; I enjoy reading them because they are exiting. Thrillers tend to have fast action packed storylines and usually there are plot twists included in this type of writing which add even more excitement. I particularly like legal/crime thrillers because these tend to be realistic and it seems that some of this can happen in really life. This sub-genre is always exiting and keeps you at the edge of you seat and the storyline is always very well developed. I also like the psyological thriller sub-genre as well because it usually takes me out of my comfort zone with strange thought provoking plots and characters. I think it’s very important for book to take you out of your comfort zone and make you think differently. I like it when there are twist endings that make you think how it happened this way and what lead to this conclusion. I love the thought provoking, fast paced stories these types of stories tend to keep my attention. If a story has a fast paced plot there is less chance I’ll get bored and stop reading because I’ll be really interested to know what happens,.

Reflection #5

My pet peeve when it comes to book covers is when the book cover includes photos of the characters in the book, this annoys me because I think its important for you to imagine what the characters look like yourself. I think when the character is shown to you it limits your imagination because it already gives you a preconceived notion of what the character looks like. I think this could affect the book because it shows you what the person looks this could make you choose a personality, this could also make you choose an accent of or way of speech based on what the character looks like. I think when it comes to books it very important to imagine your own personality, and voice for the characters. I also don’t like it when a cover is just a title and author because it says nothing to do with any symbolism or character references it’s just a bland title and author name, has not character.

Book 2, Response 1

The book starts as he awakens to a typical day on the mental ward and  the aides make fun of him for being a bit of pushover, even though he is six feet seven inches tall, they make him sweep the hallways for them. I would include this scene because it is important because it induces the characters that are important and give you insight about how they look and how their personality is. It lets you know who the most important people in the story are and how they are treated.

Today, the wards rutine is interrupted when Randle McMurphy, a new patient, arrives. McMurphy’s looks is preceded by hisloud, powerful voice and his confident, iron-heeled walk. McMurphy laughs when the patients are stunned silent by his entrance. This is important because it is showing a another very important character and describing this charastericts and personality. It gives you insight on how the character will act thughtout the story.

Reflection #4

The Best Adaptions
1.MoneyBall- The combiation of the the buissness acpect and the baseball aspect of the book was shown well in the movie. I like how they went into detail with how they decide on witch players to choose. I also like the fact that they also showed how imoprtant Brad Pitts character daugher was to him. The movie showed very well just like the book how much the sport of baseball ment to the people in the story. The movie also depicted sabermetricks very well.
2. Of Mice and Men- I like this one because they stuck to the story. This movie flollowed the book almost exactly and the characters looked exactly like I imigined they would. They did a great job invoking humor and emotion that i felt during the reading.
3. Lord of the Rings()- I think that lot of parts were left out but most of the important parts were kept in the story. I also understand why they had to keep it shorter because the book is so long and so many things, it would take too long to make a move. And it would be hard to get a movie in the theter thas 5-6 hours long.
4. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secerets- This used the most important parts of the book, and they used a good amount of humor. They did leave out many things but i wouldnt say they were they most important things the imortant plot points were kept in.
5. Fight Club- I picked this even thought they choose to leave certain parts out in the movie. I thought the way the actors portryed the the characters from the book was perfect. They showed the two diffrent personalies and made act complety diffrently just like the book. Also they kept the intro to the book the same as the movie wicth was important becauese it was used to intraduce the narratior and tyler.

Project One

Book Review

The book Fight Club is a high energy, erratic and creatively written book. This book makes you experience lot of different feelings and emotions, makes you think a lot about what is going to happen next. Our story starts out with an unnamed narrator in the present time and he has a gun to his head. Then the story jumps back in time and he starts the describe the situations that lead to the current predicament he is in. He intrudes himself as a recall specialist for a car company, he hates his job, the hates the consumer culture we live in. Then his life starts to change when he meets Tyler Durden a rebellious anti pop culture character he lives his life not by what people tell him to do but based on what he chooses to do. Tyler is portrayed as a funny, charismatic character but he does have a dark side he seems to stop at nothing to achieve his goal of making the world less reliant on martial things and to destroy the current way society is. Together these two man form an underground fight club where other men that are angry and frustrated with the way there life’s are going. Fight club becomes a place where men that are in pain in some way can go to fight with others and relieve the stress though fighting with others with the same feelings. Fight club starts to spread and there become many different underground fight clubs opening up a lot of different cities in the country, all under the control of Tyler. Tyler then uses the men to cause havoc and destruction all across the country. The brings down buildings and other establishments in other to show the groups distain from society. The story climaxes when Tyler wants to blow up a very large building and the unnamed narrator doesn’t want to do it. This is where to two characters confront each other this leads up to where the story stared with the gun in the unnamed narrators mouth.

This book is was amazing I really liked it, the characters and the story went really well together. I recommend this to anyone that like more twisted and dark books. This is good for someone that was to read a story that’s not from the perspective of some good guy but instead from the perspective of someone deranged and lost. This book was very entraining it, showed a lot of creativity from the author the dark humor in the book was also great. My favorite part of the book was the twist ending that really made you analyze the text as a whole to see if you missed something.
